What is this life if, full of care
We have no time to stand and stare.
No time to stand beneath the boughs
And stare as long as sheep or cows.
No time to see, when woods we pass,
Where squirrels hide their nuts in grass.
No time to see, in broad daylight,
Streams full of stars, like skies at night.
No time to turn at Beauty’s glance,
And watch her feet, how they can dance.
No time to wait till her mouth can
Enrich that smile her eyes began.
A poor life this if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare.

What is Whittle Away?

It is my outlet, thoughts, musings, ramblings, explorations, philosophizing which all amount to attempts to answer the question “What is this life?”

It is my personal search for meaning, my attempts to work my way through the diametric oppositions inherent in life: the joy in slowing down, standing and staring, and capturing those moments that make life, well… life; vs the need to keep moving, growing, expanding and exploring.

I am working out how to identify when standing still is

….and when standing still is capturing absolute magic, finding joy, true purpose and alignment with your whole self.

Whittle away is my attempt to carve (or, one might say, whittle) a life for myself that is truly meaningful, without letting it whither, decay or whittle away

Or I may just whittle on…. We’ll see.

Either way, if my writing sparks a single new seed of an idea in you, I will be overjoyed.
